St Patrick’s Day in Punta Gorda

St. Patrick may be the patron saint of Ireland, but many St. Patrick’s Day traditions were born in the United States

According to Wikipedia   Saint Patrick’s Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick, is a cultural and religious celebration held on 17 March, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland.

The party atmosphere only spread to Ireland  when the Irish could see all the fun being had across the ocean. “Modern Ireland took a cue from America,” McCormack says. The multi-day St. Patrick’s Day Festival, launched in Dublin in 1996, now attracts one million people each year.
